Welcome to Second Unitarian Church-affectionately called 2U! We are so glad you are considering 2U for your special event. We are proud of our historic and beautiful building, and delighted to share it. We are available for weddings, commitment ceremonies, memorials, anniversaries, birthday parties, recitals, concerts, workshops as well as any gatherings up to 200 people. We are equipped with a grand piano, flexible seating, smaller meeting or prep rooms and a new sound system. An Event Coordinator is available to ensure your day runs smoothly. The church welcomes renters of all faiths. We look forward to having you!

Second Unitarian Church is a member congregation of the Unitarian Universalist Association and has been a voice for liberal religion in Chicago since 1857. Unitarian Universalism is an open and affirming faith. We welcome those who wish to bless their lives in a ceremony marking their lifelong commitment to each other.

Our building is designed in the Prairie style of architecture. The sanctuary is warm and inviting, with brick walls, a high beamed ceiling, and stained glass windows featuring a neutral wreath motif. The simple chancel lends itself to a wide variety of decorations.

We offer more than 1,900 square feet of special event space in 3 rooms that can accommodate up to 200 guests: our sanctuary, the adjacent Palmer Room, and our remarkable second story Loft. Our open floor plan allows you to configure the space as you wish. Other features include:

  • Kitchen facilities
  • Two grand pianos – one in the Sanctuary and one in the Loft
  • New sound system with wireless and stationary mics and recording capability
  • An Event Coordinator is available for a modest fee who will help you plan your event and assist with logistics
  • Prep rooms for members of the wedding party
