Welcome to Second Unitarian Church – affectionately called 2U! We are so glad you are considering 2U for your special event. We are proud of our historic and beautiful building, and are delighted to share it. We are available for weddings, commitment ceremonies, memorials, anniversaries, birthday parties, recitals, concerts, workshops as well as any gatherings up to 200 people. We are equipped with a grand piano, flexible seating, smaller meeting or prep rooms and a new sound system. The church welcomes renters of all faiths. We look forward to having you!
Second Unitarian Church is a member congregation of the Unitarian Universalist Association and has been a voice for liberal religion in Chicago since 1857. Unitarian Universalism is an open and affirming faith. We welcome those who wish to bless their lives in a ceremony marking their lifelong commitment to each other.
Our building is designed in the Prairie style of architecture. The sanctuary is warm and inviting, with brick walls, a high beamed ceiling, and stained glass windows featuring a neutral wreath motif. The simple chancel lends itself to a wide variety of decorations.
Our open floor plan allows you to configure the space as you wish.
Other features include:
- Kitchen facilities
- Two grand pianos – one in the Sanctuary and one in the Loft
- New sound system with wireless and stationary mics and recording capability
- Prep rooms for members of the wedding party

Event Spaces — descriptions and photos
We can provide a list of Unitarian Universalist ministers and seminarians affiliated with 2U. Outside clergy may officiate in consultation with our parish minister.
The minister will consult with you on how best to create a ceremony according to your needs and wishes and then will preside on your special day.
There are two grand pianos in the church: one in the sanctuary and the other in the loft. A list of musicians familiar with the church and sound system operation is available. If you wish to use other musicians, please consult with the church office to ensure consistency with church policies.
If you require the pianos to be moved, an tuning charge may apply.
Refreshments, Food, and Alcohol
We can provide you with a list of preferred caterers who are familiar with the church for your convenience. If you wish to use other vendors or bring your own food, please consult with the Congregational Administrator to ensure consistency with church policies.
We allow beer and wine to be served but no hard liquor. We have a detailed alcohol policy which you must agree to and sign if you are serving alcohol.
Parking and Transportation
We are lucky to be located in the active and dynamic Lakeview neighborhood; however, street parking can be difficult. Evening parking on the street is by permit only. There are several nearby pay parking garages. We are also convenient to public transit: the Red, Brown and Purple line stop at Belmont and the Clark or Broadway Bus Lines are all very near the church.
