2U Choir Rehearsal
Join the Second Unitarian Church Choir, a 30-plus member, non-auditioned ensemble that welcomes singers of all backgrounds and experience levels. Our choir celebrates diverse musical traditions, offering a viscerally spiritual experience that invites everyone to engage as the spirit moves them—whether through clapping and cheering or quiet contemplation. We sing for services twice a month from September through June, covering a wide variety of musical genres, including major works for our special Music Sunday services.
Allow yourself to be stirred in body, mind, heart, and spirit as we come together to create meaningful musical expressions.

Stop by the weekly Social Justice Table (set up in the sanctuary after Sunday service) to build our culture of connecting, having conversations about justice and taking action together on justice issues at 2U. There is a host each week to guide conversation and offer an action opportunity.
New Member Orientation
Thinking about joining 2U? Signing the membership book is a meaningful step, and it all begins with our New Member Orientation. This first spark of connection ignites your journey and joins the collective fire of our community. In these sessions, you’ll discover our history, how we operate, and what it means to belong.
Sessions are in-person and Zoom. For more info, contact Judy Corbeille.
COVES Samhain Ritual
Doors open at 4:00 pm and the ritual begins at 4:30 pm. We will gather in community to honor our ancestors, release what no longer serves us, and step into the dark half of the year with intention. The ritual will conclude by 6:00 pm.
Pastoral Care Team Meeting
We provide support to congregants experiencing life's changes and challenges. The team is divided into two functions: practical care (for finite activities such as meals after an illness, rides, or light home care) and pastoral care (for long-term activities such as hospital visits, listening companionship, or grief support).
Membership Committee Meeting
The membership committee is often the first that visitors engage with as we staff the welcome table most every Sunday. We send cheery welcome letters, host the three part Orientation classes which are part of the requirement of becoming a member, and facilitate our traditional Ingathering ceremony. During the year we coordinate the long standing tradition of 2U dinners and then host an end of year welcome party for new members gathered in during the year. We try to check in with new members after a few months to be sure they feel welcome and are connected.
BIG Meeting
The Building, Infrastructure, and Grounds Committee (BIG) is responsible for managing the condition of our building and grounds, working with the board and staff on current needs and building issues and planning for the future. We strive to provide care for our building and grounds today and in the future, and welcome all to join our work.
2U Council Meeting
Our Council Meeting brings together all committee and ministry chairs for updates, shared learning, and collaborative visioning. This is a time for leaders across the congregation to connect, exchange ideas, and brainstorm ways to strengthen our ministries and community life. By working together, we align our efforts and ensure that 2U continues to thrive as a place of belonging, service, and spiritual growth.

ARMM Trip to Pullman
On Saturday, November 15th, ARMM is organizing a visit to Chicago's only National Historic Park, the Pullman National Historic Park Site. The site's rich history includes labor, civil rights, technology and business history, and the NPS tour guides are excellent. The tour is at 1 pm and lasts about an hour. In addition, there is a small museum on site which is very interesting. The entire facility, including the tour, is free.
There are a couple of ways to participate:
Meet for lunch at Lexington Betty's, 756 E 111th St, for BBQ about 11:30 a.m. and then go over to the Historic Park.
If you want to go directly to the Historic Park (610 E 111th St), please plan to be there between 12:30 and 1 pm in order to be there for the tour.
After people sign up (see link below), I will attempt to group people into car pools, possibly from 2U or in other neighborhoods depending on need and driver availability. It's a good idea to allow 45 minutes for the drive down, and probably closer to an hour for the drive home.
Accessibility: Lexington Betty's has amazing food but they have limited vegetarian/vegan options. Lunch is likely to cost $15 to $20 and you'll have leftovers (or of course you can share a meal with someone else - the portions are generous.)
The tour will be outside unless weather is inclement. There is some walking on flat ground.
Please RSVP using this link so that we can coordinate rides and have some idea of the number of people coming: https://forms.gle/e7ALrsiRdmFJzGtv9 If there is a large group I will let the NPS staff know so they can get us our own guide.
Hope you can join us!

You’ll be contacted by your host about the exact time and place for the dinner. The host will supply the main dish and invite you to bring something to fill out the menu. Any questions, contact Judy Corbeille judycorbeille@gmail.com or Pat Wilder pwild4@aol.com.

2U Board Meeting
Each month, our board convenes to address the essential aspects of our organization’s operation and future planning. These meetings are pivotal in shaping the direction of our community and ensuring we remain aligned with our mission and values.
Key Discussion Areas:
Finances: We regularly review our financial health, discussing budgetary updates, expenditures, and revenue streams. This ensures that we are managing our resources effectively and sustainably.
Capital Campaign: The board closely monitors the progress of our capital campaign, focusing on fundraising efforts, project milestones, and the long-term impact of these initiatives on our community.
Operations: Operational efficiency is critical to our success. The board evaluates current processes, addresses any challenges, and plans for improvements to keep our organization running smoothly.
Policies: Policy discussions are a staple of our meetings, where we review existing policies and consider new ones that reflect our evolving needs and values.
These meetings are crucial for making informed decisions that affect all aspects of our community. While these discussions are primarily handled by the board, we value transparency and are committed to keeping our broader community informed about our work.
If you have any questions or ideas related to these areas, feel free to reach out to a board member. Your input is always welcome as we strive to make decisions that benefit everyone.

Senior Potluck
Are you a “senior?” Then join us for our monthly Senior Brown Bag Lunch at the Admiral at the Lake. Queer Contra Dance
Step (one, two, three) into a world of inclusive dancing with Queer Contra Chicago in The Loft at 2U!
Originating from 17th-century European country dancing, contra dance brings pairs together in long lines to move to live folk music. Traditionally, the roles for each pair are referred to as “ladies” and “gents,” with gents being the leaders and ladies being the followers. At Queer Contra, they embrace non-gendered roles, where dancers can be either a "lark" or a "raven" and it's up to each pair to choose who is who and they can switch whenever they want.
Beginners are welcome and encouraged to come for the pre-dance lesson at 6:30pm! Suggested donation of $10 at the door. No one turned away for lack of funds!
DRUUMM Meeting
Diverse & Revolutionary Unitarian Universalist Multicultural Ministries (DRUUMM) is a sacred place for Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC)—where we share our ideas, and thoughts and support each other’s mental and spiritual growth in a community of love.
Our gatherings take place on the 4th Sunday of each month, just before the service, from 9:30am to approximately 10:20am in the 2U Library. If you identify as Black, Indigenous, and/or a Person of Color, we invite you to participate in this empowering community. Contact Berlinda Browne for more info.
People who identify as white are encouraged to participate in 2U’s Anti-Racism Multicultural Ministries (ARMM) or DRUUMM Allies. Contact Curtis Smith or Karen Goldner to learn more about ARMM and Pip Paris to learn more about DRUUMM Allies.
DRUUMM Allies Meeting
We want to invite all white-identifying people at 2U to join the DRUUMM Allies and Accomplices Group. This group will work to build anti-racist community with a focus on challenging racial bias within our congregation. This is a needed opportunity for white people to build up collective efforts that will make our congregation more welcoming to all. Contact Pip Paris for details.

ARMM Meeting
The Anti-Racism and Multicultural Ministries (ARMM) team at 2U works toward a racially inclusive environment WITHIN our church walls (as opposed to our Social Justice team which works in the larger world around us). Our projects range from book clubs and Chicago Black History bus tours to recommending structural and cultural changes within 2U church life. Our meetings are open to all.
Senior Potluck
Are you a “senior?” Then join us for our monthly Senior Brown Bag Lunch at the Admiral at the Lake. You may bring a dish to share, but most will find it easier to just bring their own meal, as our meeting place doesn't have a microwave, oven or stove. Please email davehkl@yahoo.com or call at 312-307-8518 for details.

During the year we coordinate the long standing tradition of 2U dinners and then host an end of year welcome party for new members gathered in during the year. We try to check in with new members after a few months to be sure they feel welcome and are connected.
