During the year we coordinate the long standing tradition of 2U dinners and then host an end of year welcome party for new members gathered in during the year. We try to check in with new members after a few months to be sure they feel welcome and are connected.
2U Council Meeting
Our Council Meeting brings together all committee and ministry chairs for updates, shared learning, and collaborative visioning. This is a time for leaders across the congregation to connect, exchange ideas, and brainstorm ways to strengthen our ministries and community life. By working together, we align our efforts and ensure that 2U continues to thrive as a place of belonging, service, and spiritual growth.

The membership committee is often the first that visitors engage with as we staff the welcome table most every Sunday. We send cheery welcome letters, host the three part Orientation classes which are part of the requirement of becoming a member, and facilitate our traditional Ingathering ceremony. During the year we coordinate the long standing tradition of 2U dinners and then host an end of year welcome party for new members gathered in during the year. We try to check in with new members after a few months to be sure they feel welcome and are connected.

Worship Associate Training
Face it—you have been dying to know how those wonderful services are created. What happens in those Zoom meetings where all the planning is done? How could you put your mark on Second Unitarian’s most visible presentation of our beliefs and values? If you have either led a service or participated as a worship associate, we would love to have you working with us on the Worship Support Team. You could be suggesting wonderful speakers and being their Worship Coordinator. We won’t plunge you into the deep waters but rather let you test the waters as part of a group effort.
If you haven’t participated in services before, let me recommend attending the Worship Associate training on February 8, 12:00 in the sanctuary. You’ll be a visible participant in our services without having to write a script or memorize lines.
For further information about either of these opportunities, please talk to any of the committee members: Marsha Bailey Ashley (chair), Jim Simonis, Rev Jason Lydon, Sarah Byrne, Elizabeth Anderson, or Laura McKee. If you are interested, please contact Marsha Bailey Ashley at marshabaileyashley@gmail.com or leave a message with the office.
New Member Orientation
Thinking about joining 2U? We’re glad to hear it! The first step is attending the new member orientation classes to learn how we came to be, how we operate, and what it means to belong. Sessions are from 12 noon to 2pm, in-person and Zoom, on Sunday, January 25th, February 1st, and February 8th in the Loft. For questions, please contact JudyCorbeille@gmail.com.
If you need childcare for the New Member Orientation sessions, please reach out to Brittany.Morse@gmail.com.
Social Justice Conversations
Stop by the weekly Social Justice Table (set up in the sanctuary after Sunday service) to build our culture of connecting, having conversations about justice and taking action together on justice issues at 2U. There is a host each week to guide conversation and offer an action opportunity.
Sunday Service
Join us for worship on Sunday mornings at 656 W. Barry Ave, Chicago, IL. Church service and children’s programming start at 10:30 a.m. every Sunday.
