Letter from the Board 6/1/2025
Dear Second Unitarian Friends,
Happy June! The month of the longest days and the shortest nights, when the seasons officially slide into summer. A time of endings and beginnings as we wrap up this church year and look forward to the year to come.
First of all, I can’t say how proud I am of all of the youth in our Coming of Age program who have been focused on developing their personal philosophies and took the brave step of sharing their Credo statements in the June 1 service. Congratulations to those youth, and I’m so delighted to see them continuing their learning on their trip to Boston later this month.
I hope you have all marked your calendars for our annual meeting coming up after service on June 8 - we need everyone there who can be there in order to take part in our church’s collective decision making! (And to make sure we meet our quorum). There are exciting topics on the table for us to consider as a community; please take a minute to read through the rest of the Anvil to learn about them.
June 8 is also ingathering, when we welcome new members to the church. It has been wonderful to see our church grow both our community and our work this year. As we close the church year out, I’d like to encourage everyone to take the summer as a time of rest and reflection, but also to consider how you might like to connect to the church in the fall? It has been a privilege to serve as your chair this year - I have learned so much about how the church works and the dedication and talents of so many members of our community. Most of all, I have been able to see the power of what is possible when a thriving community works together, even as we navigate the rich diversity of perspectives that is part of our strength.
I’d encourage each of you to consider what parts of church life might be exciting for you to build a deeper connection through, whether that is in supporting our RE programs, joining with others to plan social events, supporting our church building and grounds, working with others to advance social justice, making joyful music together, or perhaps another area that I haven’t listed here! I hope you’ll keep taking the time to connect to the many opportunities to build community through this church.
Wishing everyone a wonderful summer,
