Letter from the Board 8/1/2026
As we have spent time together over the months since Rev. Jason announced his departure, we have reflected on the past while considering our congregational future, laughed and cried, shared feelings of sadness and hope. While we are excited to know that Rev Allison Farnum will be our next fulltime, contract minister, I want to share some additional details about the contract to call process.
For the first year of Rev Allison’s contract, there is not an option to pursue a called ministry position. We will spend this time processing Rev Jason’s departure and working on the areas that we identified through the ministerial search process: antiracism work including dismantling white supremacy culture, conflict resolution and living in our shared covenant.
This first year will also be a time to explore how things are both different and the same with Rev Allison at 2U fulltime versus as a sabbatical minister.
At the conclusion of the first year, both the congregation and Rev Allison will consider if a settled ministry is desired. If we, as a congregation, decide we would like to pursue that option, there will be a task force created that is different from the board and the interim minister search task force. There must be a full congregational vote in the affirmative before any settled ministry is entered.
You can see more information on the process at: https://www.uua.org/leaderlab/contract-call/call-discernment
Over the next few months before Rev Allison begins, we will have a few ministers regularly leading Sunday worship as well as providing limited support such as pastoral care in partnership with our incredible team of lay leaders. We will be sharing additional information on how to access that support in the coming week.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact the board at bot@secondunitarian.org or speak with a board member before or after a Sunday service.
Blessed be,
