Letter from the Board 11/1/2025
Dear 2U Friends,
I was delighted that Rev. Jason returned to 2U just in time to be part of our annual Fall Fest tradition and he captured the spirit of the event just right in his welcoming comments.
In essence, he said that fun isn’t just acceptable during dark times. Fun is actually essential. Fun is resistance. Fun is part of our congregation’s mission. He reminded us of folks who went dancing even in the midst of the height of the AIDS crisis.
Fun can feel questionable when our nation is going through a dark time and when ICE agents have been right in our own church’s neighborhood lately to kidnap people who are just going about their business to brutally take them away without due process.
One of our spiritual struggles is to hold paradoxes. We carry joy and heartbreak at the same time.
I haven’t yet heard a tally of how much money our fundraising extravaganza raised this year. I hope it was a financial success. But the magic of our annual celebration is that it raises both funds and spirits at the same time. Raising our spirits is how we manage to get through the challenges of living under an authoritarian government.
We could probably come up with a more “sensible” way to raise money. But we would lose a special opportunity to bring together our intergenerational community for costumes, comedy, songs, and food (both nutritious and decadent!)
I am amazed at how much work went into making that event possible and I’m deeply grateful to all the volunteers whose efforts helped to bring us into “A World of Puure Imagination.”
