Interim Minister Search—Input Requested & Town Hall
As we prepare ourselves and our community for a time of transition with the departure of Rev. Jason this summer, the Board of Trustees has appointed an Interim Minister Search Committee. The goal of this team is to select a minister skilled in interim work that will lead our congregation for two years in an intentional way that readies us as a community to welcome our next settled minister; please see below excerpt from the UUA regarding interim ministry. We work with the UUA and our regional representative to create our profile, match with applicants and interview those matches. The final candidate’s contract will be negotiated by the board. Throughout this process, we will be reaching out to different committees, staff and congregants for input.
The committee is composed of two board members and three congregants spanning years of membership and areas of involvement:
Courtney M Anderson, Board Chair-Elect, Religious Education
Surina Jindel, Social Justice Ministries
Pat McKenna, Board Secretary, Hospitality & Welcoming Committee
Sanjiv Sarwate, Men’s Group/Religious Education/Coffee Hour
Caroline Shadle, Committee on Ministries
Please join us this Sunday, March 8th from 12-1pm in the Sanctuary for a Town Hall. We will use this time to gather feedback from the congregation and answer questions about the process.
We also encourage you to complete this survey to help guide the process. The interim search works on a tight timeline so please respond by March 15th to be incorporated into our congregational profile. Later responses/input may be incorporated into the interview and selection process.
If you have any questions about the search, please contact the board at BoT@secondunitarian.org.
The Unitarian Universalist Associate shares this: Interim ministry is a transitional ministry designed to help a congregation move from one settled ministry to the next settled ministry. Most interim ministries last 24 months, though occasionally the ministry may extend to a third year, especially in cases when the previous settled ministry was long or conflicted. An interim minister assists the congregation in moving beyond its last ministry and equipping itself for a new, different ministry. This preparation involves helping the congregation look at practices that may or may not be serving them well, assisting through the emotional process of transition, setting sights forward, and connecting the congregation to needed resources. The interim minister is hired by the board of trustees. Interim ministers may not be called by the congregation. Most congregations planning to continue in full-time ministry after a settlement use this option for their transition.
Blessed be,
